The first serious collection of Irish folk tales, made in the 1820s among the people of Munster - the Cluricaune, the banshee, the fairy rath. The Brothers Grimm translated it into German, and it began the whole business of collecting in Ireland. This edition carries a gallery of 49 plates after Erskine Nicol, Daniel Maclise and Howard Helmick, and 11 illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
